  • Choosing the right color scheme for your wedding

People often think that incorporating design into your wedding means a large increase in price.  However, by focusing in on a simple color scheme, you can easily combine complimentary elements to create a more cohesive look to your wedding.  Furthermore, the colors you select will set a particular style and tone for your event, often times adding an emphasis to the backdrop of your location.

Some important questions to ask yourself as you throw yourself into the wedding planning:

What mood does the wedding’s location set?  What type of mood are you trying to achieve?

This is one of the more obvious thought processes when thinking about colors.  Whereas more traditional weddings will likely allow less room to work with for out-of-the-box colors, you can still inject a color identity that serves to better reinforce certain moods and emotions.

What time and season is the wedding?

Are you having a night time or day wedding?  Spring or fall?  These are all very important questions and oft-overlooked in determining a color scheme.  Don’t be afraid to compliment the nature elements that will subconsciously play a role in the mood.  This is big (!) for outdoor wedding and DIY weddings that have become oh so popular.  Having a beach wedding?  Reinforce that whimsical, stress-free mood with light blues and yellows.  How about a woods-y wedding?  Think art and crafts with subtle hues of orange and blue that bring to mind some arts and crafts flair.

How big of a wedding is it?  Are you going for a more intimate feel or something grander and more elegant?

Taking risks with colors can be contingent on how many guests you will have and the relationship to these guests.  If you take a look at Victoria and Frirtz’s pictures, you’ll see how their colors and overall design identity was made possible by the smallness of the gathering as well as the closeness and age of the guests.  Most importantly have fun with it!  You can really inject a slice of your personality through the design and color elements, so don’t overlook the small touches of details.
